A large understory fern that occurs in mangrove forests and other wetlands; up to 1.2 - 1.8 m in high. Fronds usually arching around the periphery of the plant, tend to be more erect near the center, thick, leathery, compound, over 1 m long, 12 - 50 cm wide; leaflets 24 - 30 pairs; pinnae non-overlapping, rounded at the tips, approximately 10 - 34 X 1.3 - 7 cm wide.
