Description: An erect, rhizomatous perennial up to about1-2 m tall; lateral rhizomes, produced at the leaf base, can grow up to 70 cm long and 2-4 cm in diameter. Leaves 0.6-1.5 m long, very narrow, and flattened. Flowers on erect stalks. Fruits cigar-shaped 5-15 cm long. Seeds soft, downy.
