Glabrous annual or sometimes perennial herb, monoecious, erect or procumbent, to 5 dm high; leaves on main stems reduced to scales. Deciduous branchlets 3-10 cm long, with about 20-35 leaves. Leaf lamina 6-25 x 2-9 mm long. Monoecious; flowers in axillary glomerules on deciduous branchlets. Fruit capsular, 2-2.2 mm in diameter. Seeds 1.1-1.2 mm long.
