Description: An aquatic gerb with a short, erect, ovoid rootstock. Leaves on long, slender, submerged, petioles; blade floating, about 12.5-20 cm diameter, saggitate-rotand with a narrow sinus of 5-7.5 cm in depth at the base, margin entire, or coarsely sinuate, glabrous on both surfaces. Flowers solitary on long peduncles, 7.5-15 cm diameters, pale blue or violet, open all day. Fruit a soft globular, spongy berry; seeds numerous. Seeds small, albuminous, longitudinally straite, enveloped in a large aril.
