Description: A large shrub; trunk 2-4 m tall; prop-roots basal, few, and short. Mature leaves 3-4 m long, up to 9 cm wide, not glaucous; margins and midrib (beneath) stoutly armed. Inflorescences terminal. Female infl. Pedunculate, peduncles up to 40-50 cm long. Staminate infl. Large racemes, spikes 8-11 cm long, 2.5-3 cm thick, subsessile.
